Over 2,500 schools welcome 1.025m students in Belarus

MINSK, 1 September (BelTA) - On Knowledge Day, more than 2,500 schools have opened their doors to students across Belarus, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Education Ministry.

Around 1,025,000 school students are starting classes today. Of this total, 87,500 are first-graders, and 54,500 are entering the 10th grade.

All educational institutions are holding back-to-school ceremonies to mark Knowledge Day. The theme of the first lesson is Knowledge Today - Strength and Prosperity of Belarus Tomorrow!

“In the new academic year, more than 2,500 Belarusian schools and gymnasiums are welcoming students with upgraded infrastructure and modern educational spaces. Among them, two new schools are opening in Minsk District (Priluki and Smolevichi). The new academic year is also beginning in new buildings for Secondary School No. 6 in Mogilev and Secondary School No. 3 in Smolevichi,” the education ministry said.

In addition, at the start of the academic year, transportation to schools is organized for 56,000 students using approximately 1,600 buses. In 2026, 155 new vehicles will hit the country’s roads. “The fleet includes three modern MAZ models, including specialized transport with lifts for children with disabilities. Brest Oblast will receive the largest number of vehicles (10 buses), followed by Vitebsk Oblast (8) and Minsk Oblast (4), to ensure that the road to knowledge is comfortable and safe for every child,” the press service noted.
