Gennady Bolbatovsky noted that the Belarusian president and the government have set an ambitious goal for the tourism sector: to double the share of service exports and reach a contribution of about 4% to GDP by 2030. The health resort system and wellness facilities make a significant contribution to the development of the country’s tourism potential. In 2025, among 13 types of tourism, medical and wellness tourism accounted for about 50%. Revenue from the export of tourism services reached $175 million.
“Practically every day, our health resorts introduce a new type or method of treatment. But we must promote our natural potential. People come to our health resorts specifically for natural therapeutic factors they cannot find anywhere else. This is the key feature, and it shapes the positive image of Belarus’ health resort system,” he emphasized. The director explained that as part of the tourism development program, lists of sites, mineral water sources and therapeutic mud deposits, were compiled. These sites are not yet in use but are suitable for building new health resorts. “The reserves of these natural resources are sufficient for a fully functioning facility. I can say that 47 mud deposits and more than 50 mineral water wells have potential for development. This means we can still build around one hundred health resorts,” Gennady Bolbatovsky added.
In Ushachi District, the state program Poozerye is being implemented, which also aims to develop tourism potential and increase its contribution to the national economy. “A number of projects are planned, including new facilities in Ushachi District. The natural potential here fully supports this. There are two mineral water wells whose chemical composition is unique and has proven medical effects,” Gennady Bolbatovsky said.
