Vitebsk Oblast, Uzbekistan’s Namangan Oblast to sign cooperation roadmap
VITEBSK, 7 July (BelTA) – The Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee hosted a business meeting with a delegation from Uzbekistan’s Namangan Oblast. The meeting was aimed at strengthening interregional cooperation, BelTA has learned.

Deputy Chairwoman of the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee Anzhelika Nikitina mentioned the appeal of Namangan Oblast, emphasizing its vibrant entrepreneurial initiatives, well-developed tourism infrastructure, and powerful logistics potential. At the same time, she rightly emphasized that Vitebsk Oblast has prospects that are just as great, as it follows a similar development trajectory.

“In Namangan Oblast light industry generates almost the entire volume of industrial output. Vitebsk Oblast also occupies a leading position in terms of light industry output. Here we see definite industrial cooperation. Today the delegation from Uzbekistan will visit Orsha Linen Mill. The tourism potential and resorts in Uzbekistan are also very interesting. It is possible to exchange delegations, tourists, and school students, primarily for the sake of health-focused recreation,” she said.

The deputy chairwoman of the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee emphasized that although twin-town ties exist with Namangan Oblast, the region remains new and undiscovered for now. “We have agreed that before a Belarus-Uzbekistan women’s business forum, which will tentatively take place at the end of September, we will exchange delegations at the regional level and will sign a more detailed roadmap,” Anzhelika Nikitina informed.

Head of the Investment, Industry, and Trade Department of Namangan Oblast Azimjon Obidov believes that Vitebsk Oblast has great potential in the fields of agriculture and tourism. “At present we have three projects with Belarus: they involve the processing of dried fruits, the construction of a refrigerated warehouse, and one related to building materials. We are building a plant to make mini-tractors together with Minsk Tractor Works,” he said.

Key topics of the negotiations included measures to support business initiatives from Uzbekistan in our region and the creation of comfortable conditions for employment. To date, more than 200 citizens of the republic are officially employed in Vitebsk Oblast.

Representatives of Namangan Oblast will also take part in the Forum of Belarus and Uzbekistan, which is taking place in Minsk.
